Tennessee Fainting Goats
AKA- Myotonic Goats, Stiff-Leg Goats, Tennessee Nervous Goats, Wood-Leg Goats, Tennessee Scare Goats
About Our Goats:
We raise Premium Registered Fainting Goats and have some incredible bloodlines in our small little herd. Our focus is on the medium to larger sizes of the breed. We have a variety of color in the heard and have brown/marble/blue -eyed genes. It is our desire to raise healthy, happy goats.
Tennessee Fainting Goats (Myotonic Goats) get their name from their unique fainting-like action. The myotonia, which is a genetic condition, causes the muscles of this breed of goats to stiffen when startled or overly excited. This often results in the goats falling over, but the animals remain conscious through the whole episode and do not actually "faint." There are many websites that provide information regarding the breed histroy and characteristics... for more info. the IFGA site would be a good start.
Goat Philosophy/Market:
Our primary market is for those looking for a good breed of goat
to keep as pets and for those who desire to preserve and promote
this rare breed. We will also sell to those desiring to consume or
sell for meat assuming that the goats are treated with dignity.
In our quest to have more self-sufficient and healthy living we want to intake more meat that we've raised ourselves. We believe in eating meat, but also believe in respecting, caring for, and the conservation of the animal kingdom. Goats are a manageable and effecient source of meat. Compared to cattle their feed to meat ratio is much better, they are not as obtrusive on the land, and the meat is much leaner. We enjoy goat milk, but are a few years away from making the committment to begin milking.

Why Fainting Goats?:
There are several reasons we choose to raise
Myotonic Goats. They are a medium sized meat
goat with one of the best meat to bone ratio of all
breeds. Fainting Goats are also easy to work with
and make great pets... fencing, handling, and just
everyday hanging out with them is more pleasant than some other breeds. We
also appreciate that they a rare and unusual breed with an obvious unique
trait unseen in any other goats in the world. After spending more time with
our fainters and then observing other breeds, we are reminded that they really
are a beautiful and attractive breed. Their conformation, facial features,
coat quality & markings all make them very pleasing visually.
