We raise chickens for eggs, meat, and a few ornamentals. All of our chickens have plenty of space to grow and live and we do not give them any hormones. We also have ducks and a few turkeys and plans to raise quail in the future.

Meat-
We are working on developing our own strain of meat
bird which includes input primarily from the cornish and rock breads. Modern
meat chickens have been bred to grow huge and fast. Of course this is good
for the commercial industry getting quick, tender meat. We want to go backwards
a little bit for a few reasons. These birds grow so fast, so big, and are
so domesticated that they can suffer a higher probability of health problems.
They can have leg problems, they are less sanitary & often scrape their
breast on the ground, and they can even die of heart attack! These birds also
don't forage very well, they lay few eggs (which is not good for breading
purposes), and they are not as resistant to our central Texas heat. Our goal
is to find some middle ground by creating a good, meaty bird that still reserves
it's natural abilities to propagate and live a healthy life.
