It was one interesting evening in Tennessee...
The band was on tour and showed up to play a concert and learn out of 4 bands, all were from Texas and no local bands from the area were booked. It was going to be a loud night for music, but a quiet night in the audience. With about a half a dozen patrons, all the bands quickly understood we'd pretty much just be playing for eachother.
We had the delight of meeting a band called "OMG You're Dead!" These guys hit the stage screaming, wearing nothing but panties and the top halves of children's lion costumes. Their pure music chaos was a kick in the face to a couple of the other pop brand, success hungry acts playing that night.
After the concert and the 30 or so band members split up the $.65 worth of earnings for the evening, we were able to talk with OMGYD a little more. They asked what we do on the road to entertain ourselves. The introduced us to their "sock monkeys." After being inspired by a sock monkey at an art show called "Snake Eyes." They took the idea and began creating these little creatures that require little more than a pair of socks and a needle and thread.

We too were inspired and began making our own creatures while riding between city to city. Later we gathered bundles of supplies at thrifstores and took them with us to Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell, IL. This festival transpires over 4 or 5 days with people camping out going to concerts, siminars, etc. By the end of the festival there was quite a community of sock monkey creatures created by anyone who felt like sitting down and creating one.

I still enjoy making sock monkeys today, these photos are of different ones I've made and do not follow the traditional sock monkey pattern. - Justin
